COVID Vaccine Update
Thinking of stopping your contraception? Congratulations! I look forward to seeing you after your positive pregnancy test! But what most women don’t know, is that seeing your doctor before you start trying to conceive is a great idea. Here’s why:
- Folic acid is critical for proper neural tube development, and it’s most important before you know you’re pregnant. So taking a folic acid supplement for 2-3 months before conception provides maximal protection against neural tube defects (spinal cord problems that are present from birth, like spina bifida). We can talk about the right dose for you.
- We can make sure you’re immune to Rubella, or “German measles”. This is a viral infection, that generally causes a rash and fever in little kids, but if a pregnant woman gets sick with it, it can cause birth defects, premature delivery, or even death for the fetus. In fact, preventing pregnant women from getting this is the whole purpose of the rubella vaccination. If we check before you get pregnant, and you’re not fully immune to it, you can get the immunization and not have to worry!
- We can discuss your general health, questions you might have, and any other issues specific to you that might come up during the next months.
So book an appointment, and let’s discuss it! Looking forward to seeing you.
